ROCKANDBLUE Design Award
The Scholarship ROCKANDBLUE Design Award, established in 2020 in collaboration with Habit, is a newly founded award with the purpose of discovering young and talented fashion designers from Denmark and Sweden. The award consists of two separate competitions where the winner of each competition will receive a Scholarship at the Habit Fashion Awards on November 19, 2020. 

ROCKANDBLUE is a dynamic Scandinavian outerwear brand with both menswear and womenswear. The Swedish brand is distinguished by a strong rock and roll aesthetic, synonymous with a rebellious and youthful mindset, freedom and Scandinavian sophistication. With a long heritage in working with leather and decades of design experience, ROCKANDBLUE has specialized in designing outerwear in leather but also materials such as suede, wool and textile like nylon, down fillings and more.

The Aim is to promote Scandinavian Design and aspiring designers from Sweden and Denmark.
The Ambition is to challenge today’s look, and discover new exciting design within the sections Leather and Outerwear.

THE COMPETITION

The applicants should currently be studying for, or have completed in the past, a relevant degree at any of the schools below, and have a great interest in fashion design and innovation. It is possible to participate in one of the competitions or both of them. The winner of competition 1, “Commercial Leather” is rewarded with a Scholarship of 40.000 Swedish Kronor and the winner of competition 2, “Experimental Outerwear”, is rewarded with a Scholarship of 30.000 Swedish Kronor.

The competition is open for students at the following schools:

  • Beckmans Designhögskola
  • Textilhögskolan i Borås
  • Design School Kolding
  • KADK – Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademis Skoler for Arkitektur, Design og Konservering
  • SAFD – Scandinavian Academy of Fashion Design
  • KEA – Copenhagen School of Design and Technology
 
PARTICIPATION

Your contribution to the competition needs to be sent in digitally, on the Apply link on www.rockandblue.com/rockandblue-design-award or sent directly to customer.service@rockandblue.com and write the competition name in the subject line.

We have decided to extend the application deadline, note that the new application deadline is the 28th of June 2020 (extended date).

The winner of each competition will be contacted in the start of July and then be provided with the material needed for the final step of the process – to create physical garments that will be photographed and presented at Habit Fashion Awards in Stockholm on November 19, 2020. See the competition description for details.  

The award winners will have the opportunity to visit the ROCKANDBLUE Design department, as well as taking part in producing photos of the collection. The winners will be credited in the publications where the design is presented. The winners are offered sponsoring for costs for travel and accommodation, in line with agreement.
ROCKANDBLUE is granted the right to the content of submitted contest entries.

ASSESSMENT & SELECTION

The jury consists of well renowned former Head of Design at H&M Margareta van den Bosch, Habit Magazine's Editor in Chief Kajsa Åström and designer and creatives from ROCKANDBLUE.

The contest entries will initially be controlled by the in-house jury to make sure that they meet all requirements. The entries with the highest originality and creativity will be presented to the jury.

COMPETITION l


WOMEN'S COMMERCIAL LEATHER COLLECTION

 

Design a commercial/ functional and innovative collection for Women. The collection should consist of 5-8 products in leather, focusing on new shapes. The expression should be youthful with a street-style look. Feel free to combine materials. Keep sustainability, recycling and eco in mind.
The winner of this competition will create 1-2 looks and it will be presented at the Habit Fashion Awards on November 19, 2020.

The contribution must include:
  • Moodboard / Collage with inspiration that represent your collection.
  • Short inspirational text that describe your inspiration and your design (maximum 500 characters).
  • Choose one of the lead word sustainability, recycling or eco and implement this to your collection in the way you prefer.
  • Garment sketches in Illustrator, front- and back.
  • Product descriptions; short description of every production.
    - What leather you would like to use and which expression it would have, for example: snake print, embossed, nappa, suede, etc.
    - What expression would you like to have for the leather? Washed look, vintage, clean or other.
    - What 3d-look does the material have?
  • Make a colour map/-card for the collection.
  • Three fashion illustrations “Get the look”, where you illustrate how the products are supposed to be worn and combined. Note that not every product in the outfit have to be in leather.
Step 1.Send us your competition entry no later than June 28, 2020. Make sure that it meets all of the requirements stated above.

Step 2.The winner will be announced in the start of July. At this point it is time for the preparations of the final task; to create 1-2 looks for the presentation at the Habit Fashion Awards price ceremony in November.

Step 3. The leather order should be submitted to ROCKANDBLUE within one week. This in order to ensure more time for the design process. The material is sent to the winners address. In addition to the ordered leather, the winner will also receive an allowance of 2.000 Swedish Kronor for purchasing other materials.

Step 4. Pattern making and other preparations that are needed to be done before the delivery of ordered material; 4-6 weeks estimated delivery time.

Step 5. October 1 is the deadline for the looks, in order to start preparing for photoshoot and presentation together with ROCKANDBLUE.

The winner is rewarded with a scholarship of 40.000 Swedish Krona.

COMPETITION ll


EXPERIMENTAL OUTERWEAR COLLECTION,
WOMAN AND/OR MAN

Note: We are looking for a young and experimental collection. What is the new new? Mixed materials and new shapes. Think Sustainability, Recycling and Eco.

The winner of this competition will design a collection that will be presented at the Habit Fashion Awards on November 19, 2020.

The contribution must include:
  • Identify a target group. Who is the customer for your collection? Create a moodboard that represents your customer/persona. The age group should be between 15–25 years old.
  • Short description of your customer/persona (max 500 characters).
  • Choose one of the lead words sustainability, recycling or eco and implement this to your collection in the way you prefer.  
  • Collection of 3-5 outerwear for women and/or men. Garment sketches in Illustrator, front- and back.
  • Make a colour map/-card for the collection.
  • Present your choice of material for every product in your collection, including a description of the material properties, characteristics and technical details, as well as preparing physical fabric samples that can be sent to the manufacturer. 
  • Measurement chart for all garments in the collection, alternatively finished patterns. 

Step 1. Send us your competition entry no later than June 28, 2020. Make sure that it meets all of the requirements stated above.

Step 2. The winner will be announced at the start of July. At this point it is time for the preparations of the final task; to produce the collection with help from ROCKANDBLUE’s manufacturer. This project will be funded by ROCKANDBLUE. In addition to the material used by the supplier, the winner will also receive an amount of 1000 SEK to purchase other material used for the design.

Step 3. Coordinate the material and instructions to be sent to the supplier, such as material samples, measurement charts/patterns, sketches and additional material intended for the supplier. The garments are produced at the supplier; therefore it will be necessary with communication through email. The garments will be shipped from the manufacturer by mid September.

Step 4. October 1 is deadline for the looks, to start preparing for photoshoot and presentation.

The winner is rewarded with a scholarship of 30.000 Swedish Krona.
